Sincére installation

Sincére

2001

Sincère is made up of three pieces. Pure Faith and I Think What I Am Felling are made out of packing tape. Tender is made of white glue. The works on the wall and floor fill the gallery space.

Sincère was an experiment in transforming lowly materials into art, a theme that carries on to this day in the artist’s oeuvre. Packing tape and glue become the formal elements of circles and spheres. A dialogue is established between the three pieces in the installation. The initial idea for installation came from a Marcel Broodthaers quote: “Finally the idea of inventing something insincere crossed my mind and I set to work straightaway.” In contrast, the artist wondered about setting out to invent something sincere. Is it possible to be sincere or insincere in art? This work was created while the artist was pregnant.
