Description

Large quantities of glue were poured onto a wooden frames lined with a plastic sheet and left to dry. After the glue had dried the half-inch thick sheets were cut into various-sized circles with scissors. These were placed randomly around the gallery floor.

Statement

Tender is sheer materiality. The artist experiments with the behaviour of a common material to see if it could be made to do something it isn’t designed to do. Rather than sticking something together it is sculpture. It becomes representational, because the circles end up looking like dull pools of milk on the gallery floor. The title refers to the skin-like quality of the material, which becomes malleable when heated.
