Description
This is a series of gouache paintings on 30 x 22 inches dark gray watercolour paper. The flat and matte qualities of the gouache complement the mate black paper.
Night Time Labyrinth (cartographic) follows conceptually a series of other works, ie: Orange Flame.
The beginnings of these works can be found in Sanguine, a painting series from 2018. The ‘weave’ of the lines is tighter and more intense. Slowly the ‘weave’ opened up further to its present expression.
Statement
In all of these works the artist continues her quest of painting and re-painting a cartographic sign embedded with the experiences of exile, memory and emigration: a sustained and unceasing gesture. A gesture that brings to mind labyrinth like marks and brain configurations. These paintings of meandering paths tentatively bring the artist closer in revealing an uncertain destination.
