Sanguine series
Sanguine
This series is made up of over 20 works of gouache on heavy paper hung in a grid. The line of each tangle goes to the edge and connects visually with the drawing next to it. Each is mounted on a wooden painting board, an inch deep.
The work is obsessive in its making. The process begins at a starting point, with an idea of what form it will take, but allows for randomness in the process. Blood, viens, DNA unraveling inside the body uncontrolled and connected.
In all of these works the artist continues her quest of painting and re-painting a cartographic sign embedded with the experiences of exile, memory and emigration: a sustained and unceasing gesture. A gesture that brings to mind labyrinth like marks and brain configurations. These paintings of meandering paths tentatively bring the artist closer in revealing an uncertain destination.
The Spiral series is related to this series, in that they are both meditative, but Spirals removes the random element.
The series was exhibited together with Untitled and À fleur (de peau)
